The Stellenbosch office of the CSIR continuously monitors real time ocean waves and weather at various sites around the South African coast on behalf of Transnet. Most of the data is gathered by means of moored wave buoys. The measured data is transmitted to a shore station where a comprehensive analysis is done. The analysed data is then downloaded in near real-time to Stellenbosch, where it is stored in a database.
